OAKLAND, Calif. -- A water main break near UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland has shut down a nearby highway off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP reported at 9:55 a.m. that the 51st Street off-ramp from state Highway 24 was shut down.

East Bay Municipal Utility District spokeswoman Nelsy Rodriguez said an 8-inch asbestos cement pipe in the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way ruptured just after 6 a.m.

EBMUD crews are working on making repairs and expect to complete them between 2 and 6 p.m., Rodriguez said.

The hospital is not affected by the break, but two residences and two fire hydrants have water shut off, she said.
