Hurricane Odile causes massive damage to Cabo San Lucas, strands travelers

Cabo San Lucas is still struggling to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Odile on Monday. The powerful storm caused severe damage to the Mexican resort community, causing the roofs of an auto dealership and restaurant, and part of a hotel's swimming pool to be pushed into the ocean.

The Los Cabos International Airport suffered some of the worst destruction, now closed until at least Tuesday, September 23rd, leaving many passengers stranded. U.S. tourists who were stranded by the storm are being evacuated by Mexican military planes. Eight-thousand people, including tourists and locals, were scheduled to be evacuated on Thursday. Many tourists stood in lines of over five hours to board planes.

The hurricane caused massive power loss and flooding through parts of Los Cabos, prompting looting of businesses and stores. Residents without power or water have resorted to lighting large bonfires to protect their neighborhoods.

A group of women from Fresno, California celebrating a bachelorette party were declared missing on Monday. The group was supposed to return to the United States on Monday but nobody had heard from them until Wednesday night. Their hotel was partially destroyed during the hurricane.
