Stuart Scott mural in LA keeps memory alive
LOS ANGELES -- Stuart Scott may have lost his battle with cancer in January, but his memory lives on in a mural in the Westchester neighborhood in Los Angeles.
Created by artist Jonas Swyer, the mural means a lot to his two daughters.
"Just little things in his face that I recognize from staring at him so much... the fact that they were able to capture that, it makes me feel like I get to be closer to him and I get to see him again," said 15-year-old Sydni Scott .
"What I love most is I never thought I would see my father memorialized in this way. I never thought anyone would create a tribute to him. To see that, it blows me away," said 20-year-old Taelor Scott.
Last year, Stuart Scott was honored with the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award at the ESPYS for his battle with cancer. During his speech, he credited his daughters with his win, "Taelor and Sydni, I love you guys more than I will ever be able to express. You two are my heartbeat. I am standing on this stage here tonight because of you."
During his speech, he also shared his approach to fighting cancer. "I also realized something else recently," he said. "I said, I'm not losing. I'm still here. I'm fighting. I'm not losing. But I've got to amend that. When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live. So live. Live. Fight like hell."
The ESPYS will air at 8 p.m. Wednesday on ABC7. Both of Stuart's daughters are expected to attend.
