Is it a cold or the flu?

Sore throat, stuffy nose, feeling achy? You may have caught that nasty cold that's going around. but, then again, this is flu season. So, what are you coming down with? Here now to help us figure it out is doctor of internal medicine, Isaac Eliaz.

What to do if you have the cold or flu?

  1. Let your self be sick.
  2. Rest, hydration and supplements- some examples:
  • Hot drinks such as hot tea with plenty of honey and lemon, Fresh ginger tea.
  • Vitamin C at high dosages, as much as 3-6 grams a day. An easy to drink form is Emergen-C.
  • Herbal tinctures- a commonly used one is Echinacea. To be used only in acute setting, not on a long term basis or for prevention.
  • Homeopathic preparations- the most famous one is Oscilococcinum. Especially effective if taken in the first day of the cold or flu.
  • Increase your dose of medicinal mushrooms.
