Oakland resident Robert Finley, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Deputy M. Castellanos said. The second fatal victim was taken to a local hospital before succumbing to his injuries. His name is not being released until his next of kin is notified.
The accident occurred in the 8300 block of International Boulevard around 6:30 a.m., but Officer John Wilson said he didn't know any details and couldn't confirm if more than one car was involved.
A third victim was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland and is expected to survive, Castellanos said.
One person was taken into custody and was being questioned about the accident, according to Officer L. Silva, who said it was possibly a hit-and-run that may have involved up to five pedestrians.
Oakland police are investigating the incident.
