A 26-year-old pizza deliveryman was shot Monday night while attempting to make a delivery at a Concord hotel, Cpl. Kerry Cerletti said today.

The victim, a Domino's Pizza LLC employee, was attempting to make a delivery at the Best Western Heritage Inn at 4600 Clayton Road when he was shot in the stomach, Cerletti said.

After being shot, the man called his wife to tell her he was injured while witnesses called police.

The call came into the police station at 8:10 p.m. Police found the man at 4636 Melody Drive near Newhall Community Park.

He was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was listed in stable condition and taken almost immediately into surgery. The bullet was still inside him, Cerletti said.

Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene, Cerletti said.
