Bomb scare forces 25 homes to evacuate

SAN JOSE, CA

San Jose Police Department spokesman Enrique Garcia said police were called at approximately 11:30 a.m. to the residence after the homeowner found the box while cleaning his garage. The bomb squad was called and residents in the area were evacuated before the box was "rendered safe" by the bomb squad at approximately 5 p.m.

Bomb squad members have not yet determined if the box actually contained dynamite, according to Garcia.

Evacuated residents should be allowed back into their homes sometime this evening, as soon as the bomb squad finishes its work. "They just have a few more things to do then people will be allowed back," Garcia said.

Garcia did not have the exact number of homes or residents evacuated immediately available.
