One man shot dead, another stabbed

CONCORD, CA

At about 4:15 a.m. officers responded to reports of gunshots and yelling in the 1300 block of Del Rio Circle. Arriving officers found Donald Robert Walker III, a Concord resident, on the living room floor of an apartment unit suffering at least two gunshot wounds, police reported.

Marcos Antonio Martinez, a 22-year-old Concord resident, was also found in the apartment. He was suffering an apparent stab wound, according to police.

Walker and Martinez were both transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where Walker died, police reported. Martinez was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

While responding to the shooting, officers spotted a vehicle speeding away from the crime scene and conducted a traffic stop. Police reported that the occupants of the vehicle were arrested in connection with a fight that led to the shooting, but did not immediately list the names or number of the suspects.

As of 2 p.m., the suspects had not been booked into jail. Martinez was also arrested after police discovered that he had allegedly lied about his identity.

Walker and many of those involved in the fight are allegedly known to police as members or associates of the Norteno gang, but the motive is still under investigation and does not appear to be the result of gang rivalry, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Concord police tip line (925) 603-5836. To leave anonymous tip, call Bay Area Crime Stoppers (800) 222-8477.
