Pelicans to be released in Sausalito

SAUSALITO, CA

During the past six weeks, the center has admitted more than 150 pelicans from throughout the state to its facilities in Fairfield and San Pedro, Executive Director Jay Holcomb said.

Most of the birds are weak due to lack of food and some have more serious injuries, according to Holcomb.

He said it's common for the center to see more birds during the summer months and that the influx in ailing pelicans may be partly attributed to successful nesting.

The birds are scheduled to be released at 1 p.m. at Fort Baker's Horseshoe Cove in Sausalito.
