Immigration officials take custody of boy

The SF Chronicle reports a boy at the center of a legal fight over San Francisco's sanctuary city status has been taken into custody by federal immigration authorities.

The decision to hand the 14-year-old drug suspect over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency circumvents a judge's order that he be considered an abandoned youth and protected from deportation.

The judge's recent ruling had created a conflict with mayor Gavin Newsom's administration.

Last month, the mayor ordered the city to begin turning juvenile illegal immigrants who committ felonies over to the feds.
