Police stopped Prince Swayzer III in his car near Third and Hensley Streets on suspicion of drug trafficking. Police said he swallowed an unknown substance and resisted arrest.
"As the fight ensued the officer called for assistance, when the other officers arrived the suspect continued fighting, that's when the electronic device was used on the suspect," San Jose Police Department spokesperson Jermaine Thomas said.
Police insist the Taser was used properly they said following the incident, the suspect refused medical treatment both at the scene and later at a hospital.
The involved officers have been placed on paid leave.
