The Napa County District Attorney's Office is filing murder and robbery charges this afternoon against two suspects in the beating death of 16-year-old high school senior Jesus Tornero, the county district attorney said.

Donovan Pierre, 23, and Derrice Lewis, 16, both of Napa, were scheduled to appear in Napa County Superior Court this afternoon. Lewis is being charged as an adult, Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein said.

Napa police arrested Pierre and Lewis on Wednesday for the robbery, murder and conspiracy. Tornero was attacked while walking home on Louisa Street around 9 p.m. Monday.

Police say Tornero, a senior at Napa High School, was beaten and robbed of his cell phone and $10. He died of blunt force trauma to the head, Napa police Cmdr. Andy Lewis said.

Andy Lewis said an informant contacted police Wednesday and gave information that implicated Pierre and Lewis. The suspects shared an apartment in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue but police don't believe they knew Tornero, Lewis said.

Police believe the robbery and murder were random acts, Lewis said.
