Avoiding or keeping clean a few household items may help you prevent catching a cold.

Researchers at the University of Virginia studied the homes of people with colds and found that germs can live for two days or more on certain items including:

  • TV remote controls
  • Salt and pepper shakers
  • Light Switches
  • Door knobs
  • Phones
  • Refrigerator door handles
  • Bathroom faucets

Regularly wiping these items down can help prevent the spread of germs.
