Not guily plea in Bernal Heights slaying

SAN FRANCISCO

Max Reyes, 24, of San Francisco, is alleged to have shot 36-year-old John Rogers and a second victim at a home in the first block of Fair Avenue on the night of Nov. 3.

Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized and was expected to survive, police said.

Prosecutors have charged Reyes, who was arrested the next day, with murder, attempted murder, robbery, burglary, conspiracy, assault with a firearm and possession of marijuana for sale, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Reyes was appointed a public defender and pleaded not guilty to all the charges this morning. He remains in custody on $1 million bail. He is due back in court Dec. 3.
