Firefighters responded to the two-story home at 954 Rhode Island St. around 3:15 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the house, San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
A resident reported the blaze, which appears to have started in a bedroom, Talmadge said.
Firefighters had the fire controlled by 3:40 a.m., but asked police to respond to assist in the investigation.
Police remained at the home around 8:30 a.m. today.
