Special BART passes for New Year's Eve

Bay Area Rapid Transit has begun selling special "flash passes" for New Year's Eve, transit officials announced this week.

The $6 passes allow unlimited rides on BART from 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve to 3 a.m. on New Year's Day.

Only 7,000 passes are available, so people who want to take advantage of the offer should buy them as soon as possible, according to BART officials.

The passes are available at Safeway supermarkets throughout the Bay Area; at the customer service center at the Lake Merritt BART station; and at the "MyTransitPlus" stores in the Embarcadero, Civic Center, Montgomery, Powell Street, Coliseum, Bay Fair and Richmond BART stations.

BART will be extending its hours until about 3 a.m. on New Year's Day.
