Moon orbit occurred 40 years ago

It was 40 years ago this week that the astronauts aboard Apollo 8 became the first humans to orbit the moon.

The first shot of Earth was seen by Americans live on television.

On Christmas Eve in 1968 Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders took turns reading from The Book of Genesis.

The mission fueled national pride, in a year that saw the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and faced setbacks in the Vietnam War.
