The boy was in a crosswalk riding south on South Norfolk Street at East Hillsdale Boulevard when a Lexus struck him at about 6:40 p.m., San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi said.
The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition Monday night, Brunicardi said.
The driver of the Lexus fled the scene but witnesses provided a description and officers located the driver at his home in San Leandro, Brunicardi said.
He was questioned and his vehicle impounded, but officers did not arrest him, according to Brunicardi.
The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office will investigate the case to determine whether the driver should be charged with a crime, Brunicardi said.
