Discrimination complaints at Livermore Lab

Age discrimination complaints are being filed against the Lawrence Livermore lab on behalf of 100 employees who were laid off in May.

The lab cut 440 employees including scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative assistants.

94 percent of those were over the age of 40.

An attorney representing the workers says that gives them "protected status." They were earning higher salaries and nearing the age of retirement. The discrimination complaints will most likely lead to a lawsuit.

A lab spokesman says the layoffs were made according to Department of Energy regulations
