At about 6:20 p.m., residents in the 5900 block of Mountain Hawk Drive reported seeing the juvenile mountain lions, Sgt. Eric Goldschlag said.

"They (residents) called concerned," Goldschlag said. "The big concern was where was the mother."

Four responding police officers managed to push the cats, which each weighed between 25 and 30 pounds, back toward the nearby open space area and there was no sighting of their mother, Goldschlag said.

The state Department of Fish and Game was notified of the incident.

Goldschlag said mountain lion sightings are not uncommon in Sonoma County, but it is unusual for the cats to be seen in that area.
