Volunteers with the Rotary Club of Oakland started handing them out Tuesday.

The goal is to give at least three books to every single third grader in Oakland and Emeryville -- that's more than 14,000 books -- all by the end of the week.

Among the books being distributed are "Charlotte's Web," "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and "Horrible Harry Moves Up to the Third Grade."

The books were paid for thanks to $45,000 in donations.
