UC Berkeley urged to return bones

BERKELEY, CA

The bones are being stored in the anthropology museum on campus. They were removed from the Battle of Saipan in 1945 by a navy doctor. He kept them in a private collection for 30 years before donating them.

UC Berkeley says it cannot confirm if the remains are soldiers or civilians. The school says it will honor any legitimate request to return them.
