The 250 acre Cherry Fire burned off Interstate 80 near the Lagoon Valley Regional Park.

The hills near Vacaville were covered in flames early Friday. Initially 100 homes were threatened when the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m.

"Grab the dog and get the things that are important," nearby resident Raleigh Galgan said.

Low winds helped firefighters gain control over the fire, but there was a flare up Friday morning.

"All it takes is a spark," Battalion Chief Tim Winfield of the Benicia Fire Department said. "And with this breeze all it takes is one of those embers to cross our lines."

As crews continue to clean up around the burn area, residents are grateful for the quick response from firefighters.
