Retailers bring back layaway plans

Started up again last year they allow consumers to make installment payments at the store.

"Whether it's layaway or a Christmas Club program, retailers have really been going back in the vault, and pulling out ideas that 20, 30 years ago used to be very popular," says Ellen Davis from the National Retail Federation.

Holiday sales account for 25 to 40 percent of the average retailer's annual business.
