Thousands of people went running for a good cause Thursday morning in San Jose.

About 10,000 runners, joggers and walkers took part in the 5th Annual Turkey Trot.

The event is expected to raise as much as $500,000 for three charities: The Second Harvest Food Bank, The Housing Trust, and The Children's Health Initiative.

Applied Materials of Santa Clara was a sponsor.

The company's CEO says despite the down economy, hundreds of employees contributed a record amount this year.
