Part of I-580 shut down for investigation

RICHMOND, CA

At about 8:30 p.m., officers responded to westbound Highway 580 just west of Central Avenue and found a man suffering gunshot wounds on the side of the highway, police Sgt. Bisa French said.

"It appears he was shot in a vehicle and pushed out on the side of the road," she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No suspect information was immediately available.

California Highway Patrol Officer Ralph Caggiano said the right two lanes of westbound Highway 580 are expected to remain closed between Central and Bayview avenues until about 1 a.m. Saturday.

French said earlier in the night, shortly after 7 p.m., a man was shot and killed in the 400 block of Wilson Avenue. Two males were seen running from the area, but no other suspect description was immediately available.

French said there's no immediate indication tonight's shootings are connected.

There have been four homicides in Richmond this year, French said.
