Man pleads no contest to stabbing neighbor

MORGAN HILL, CA

Charles Rolen pleaded no contest to attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the attack of his neighbor Ernest Andrews on Aug. 5, 2009, district attorney's spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.

He faces a possible maximum sentence of 12 years in prison and will be sentenced on March 8.

On the night of Aug. 5, a fight had broken out between the two men while Rolen was visiting the victim. Police said the fight escalated and Rolen pulled out a knife and began stabbing Andrews in the neck and head in Andrews' home at 16975 Monterey Road.

Andrews was taken to Regional Medical Center in San Jose. His injuries were not life-threatening.
