Teen shot to death in Oakland; Suspect sought

OAKLAND, CA

Police say there was a shootout in the courtyard of an apartment building located on 92nd Avenue between Sunnyside Street and Bancroft Avenue in Oakland. It happened around 1:45 p.m.

The 18-year-old man that was killed got into a fight with a group of young men and gunfire was exchanged. Police say they do not know how many of the men had guns, but say multiple shots were fired.

Other people were at the apartment complex at the time of the shooting, enjoying a sunny Saturday afternoon. One woman told ABC7 her three-year-old saw the man that got shot. She also said she was not surprised about that the shooting happened at the apartment.

"I have girlfriends who won't even come visit me because I live here," Delise Monroe said. "Literally, just last weekend I asked my girlfriend to come over. She was like, 'Girl, I don't want to get shot.' And, look at that. Somebody is dead in front of my house. My three-year-old son is saying, 'Somebody got shot. The boy is dead.' No mother wants that for their child."

Police say this is a dangerous area known for shootings and drug activity. They do not know if the shooting was gang-related or related to drug sales and they have not made any arrests.
