Drunken man leads police on high-speed chase

SAN RAFAEL, CA

Police were called to the Nickel Rose Bar on B Street at about 11 p.m. on a report of a man outside the bar wielding a handgun and later threatening the doorman.

When they arrived, officers saw the suspect inside a green Ford Explorer and tried to stop him, but the driver took off and a 70-mph chase ensued into San Anselmo, according to police.

The driver crashed at the Redhill Shopping Center, then backed up and rammed into a police car and took off again, back toward San Rafael, police said.

The driver "collided with several street signs and mailboxes along the way," before attempting "a reckless turn that caused him to leave the road and destroy several bushes as he tried to get back onto the road," police said.

Another officer collided into the Explorer to prevent it from getting back onto the street, according to police.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Jeffery Green, of San Rafael, "did not comply with the officers' requests and had to be removed from the car," police said.

Inside the car, officers found a Beretta-style pellet gun, according to police.

Green was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading officers with disregard for life and property, driving under the influence and damaging police equipment.

No one was injured during the incident, police said.
