Stanford University is now following in UC Berkeley's footsteps and collecting student DNA.

Stanford has offered its summer session students the choice of having their genes analyzed.

UC Berkeley is now sending saliva kits to incoming freshmen and transfer students.

Both are using test results as part of a program for students to study personalized medicine, allowing doctors to tailor treatments based on the individual patient and supporters call the move innovative.

But critics are raising concerns over privacy and collection methods.
