Man arrested for bringing gun into Hall of Justice

REDWOOD CITY, CA

At about 1 p.m., James Douglas Knapp entered the building's security checkpoint and placed his backpack into the X-ray machine, which revealed a .45-caliber handgun and a loaded magazine, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrested Knapp for unauthorized possession of a loaded firearm in a public building and for concealed carrying of a loaded firearm.

According to the sheriff's office, Knapp was at the Hall of Justice to petition the court for a modification of his child custody order and was unaware he was carrying the loaded firearm.

Knapp was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
