The search is on in Oakland, where police are looking for a sniper who opened fire on officers while they were trying to make an arrest. The shots came from a high-rise building on 8th street. Swat officers searched that building for several hours overnight.

An intense search of the area failed to find the sniper. There was evidence that the sniper attack may have been planned well ahead of time.

At about 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, police were making a stop on a vehicle when somebody opened fire from an apartment building located at 1055 8th Street.

After backup was called, police entered the apartment building, but did not enter the individual apartment units.

Officers did find that someone had vandalized a room containing surveillance equipment for the building.
