SJ firefighters to vote on cuts to pay, benefits

SAN JOSE, CA

The firefighters union now says it will let its members vote on cutting their total compensation package by nearly nine percent. They will also vote on paying more for their health and retirement plans.

49 firefighters lost their jobs and San Jose closed several stations to help close its budget deficit, but union leaders say they have received no guarantee that any laid-off firefighters will be rehired if the pay cuts get approved.

That vote will be later this month.
