Over 400 positions to be offered at job fair

BERKELEY, CA

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is hiring and one doesn't need to be a scientist to apply. The open positions cut across all aspects of the lab's many functions.

"We have 160 job opportunities available here at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; everything from scientists, to maintenance supervisors, to I.T. specialists," says Dan Krotz, from Lawrence National Berkeley Laboratory.

Lawrence Berkeley is just one of 13 employers taking part in Tuesday's East Bay HIRE event.

"At the event tomorrow there will be over 400 open positions, including retail, insurance, finance, sales, government positions. There will be little bit of everything, scientific, medical," says Kathy Masera from the California Job Journal.

The positions will be offered by both private companies like Sysco and Aflac and government agencies, including the Employment Development Department and U.S. Navy. The job fair comes as California is starting to see at least some growth in certain sectors of the economy.

"Small business is an example. Last month increased jobs by one-tenth of 1 percent. That equates to 26,000 jobs across the country," says Masera.

LensCrafters will also be at the job fair. They have about 50 positions available in the greater Bay Area and have 22 stores between San Jose and Santa Rosa, many with openings.

"We have a number of positions available: general manager, retail manager, manufacturing manager, as well as manufacturing technicians and eyewear consultants," says Rowena Brown from LensCrafters.
