Americans walk less than other industrialized nations

The aim is to highlight the health benefits of walking and the importance of making streets safe for pedestrians.

The event comes on the heels of a study which finds among major industrialized nations, no one walks less than Americans.

Researchers found that we take an average of 5,000 steps a day.

Compare that to nearly 10,000 steps a day taken by Australians, the walking leaders.

Experts say taking a stroll every day, and walking more around the office are easy ways to get exercise.
