3 arrested in fatal shooting of teen in Richmond

RICHMOND, Calif.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 4026 Fleming Ave. at 3:32 p.m. and found 16-year-old Deshawn Grisby, who had been shot once in the upper torso, Richmond police Lt. Shawn Pickett said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the shooting, witnesses followed a white car containing three to four occupants and provided a description of the vehicle to police, Pickett said.

At 5:27 p.m. Monday, a school resource officer headed to Kennedy High School saw a car that matched that description traveling east on Fall Avenue at South 45th Street, about half a mile from the murder scene. With assistance from several other officers, the officer stopped the vehicle at South 52nd Street and Potrero Avenue and detained two juveniles and one adult.

Pickett said witnesses identified them as the suspects, and they were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall and Contra Costa County Jail.

Police did not yet have a motive for the shooting, which remains under investigation.
