Summit to help Caltrain deal with $30M budget deficit

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The Silicon Valley leadership group is working with Caltrain to review options that might include putting tax measures before voters.

The railroad does not receive state or federal assistance and relies on Muni, Samtrans and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation authority to contribute funding. But, those transit systems are dealing with their own budget problems.

Right now, Caltrain officials say the agency only has enough money in its budget to run during the morning and evening commute hours.
