Elderly woman pinned between cars dies

SANTA ROSA, Calif.

Ruth Camilli, 85, was in her home's driveway in the 1800 block of Will Scarlett Drive at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when she walked behind a vehicle that had just pulled forward in the driveway, police said.

As she passed behind it, the vehicle rolled backward, striking Camilli and briefly pinning her against the vehicle and a second car parked in the street. Police said nearby family members reacted quickly to separate the vehicles.

Police and medical personnel responded to the scene, and Camilli was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

According to a preliminary police investigation, drugs or alcohol do not seem to have played a role. Police said that the people involved in the accident are cooperating with the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Christine Morrison of the Santa Rosa police Traffic Bureau at (707) 543-3636.
