Retailers start gadget buyback plan

Target and Radioshack are among the stores now buying back products from customers and offering credit toward new purchases. People have been dumping their old smartphones and video games on craigslist or eBay, but retailers are recognizing trade-ins could generate foot traffic and loyalty.

Re-selling iPhones, for example, can actually bring a higher price than customers originally paid, because the phones are subsidized by the wireless carrier.
