A car crashed into a power pole west of Petaluma late Tuesday morning, causing power lines to fall and start several small fires, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash was reported at 11:07 a.m. on Valley Ford Road just west of Fallon Road, near the U.S. Coast Guard training center.

Valley Ford Road was shut down at 11:24 a.m.

The fallen power lines started small fires in a ditch and burned the power pole, according to the CHP.

CHP Officer John Short said the fires were extinguished by 1:18 p.m. and Valley Ford Road reopened at 1:25 p.m.

The driver of the brown Toyota Camry that struck the pole abandoned the car after the crash, CHP Officer Mark Thomas said.
