SAN FRANCISCO --Scientists have found a tree in San Francisco with sudden oak disease. It is only the second time it's been found in the city. The tree is on the southeastern edge of the Presidio, near West Pacific Avenue. It's one of the few native trees in the Presidio and scientists believe the tree was infected by an ornamental plant in the garden of a nearby home. Scientists are troubled, because the finding means the disease escaped into the wild, despite an intense nation-wide effort to control it.
