Poll: Most Californians oppose shark finning

SAN FRANCISCO

According to the poll of 600 registered voters, 76 percent support legislation making it illegal to sell or distribute shark fins in California. The ban is also strongly favored by Chinese American voters; 70 percent support it.

Assembly Bill 376 is currently making its way through the state legislature. Chinese immigrants consider the proposal a slap at Chinese culture and claim the poll is skewed because only 40 to 50 percent of Chinese immigrants are registered voters.
