Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius tour SF General Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and Pelosi toured the hospital to highlight the medical center's Partnership For Patients. It's touted as a new approach to medical care that focuses on the well-being of the patient long after they leave the hospital.

"It's a lot about follow up care. It's about a transition going home, making sure that a patient is well equipped, has the support system to carry out whatever the effort is at home," said Sebelius.

The approach is also expected to reduce expenses by keeping down readmissions to the hospital. Sebelius expects that a $1 billion investment in Partnership For Patients will save Medicare about $50 billion in just a decade.
