According to the Vallejo Times Herald, someone in the city has been stealing storm drain covers. The newspaper reports five storm drains disappeared last Friday, bringing the total number of covers stolen to 20.
The drain covers weigh up to 100 pounds each and the theory is someone is stealing them for their value as scrap iron.
Not only is the city on the hook for the cost of replacing the drain covers, but officials say the uncovered drains create a health and safety risk.
