Apple fans had hoped the new device would be released this year, but according to the Wall Street Journal the new iPad 3 hasn't even hit the trial production phase.
Part of the problem could be that Apple is planning to include retina display which will increase resolution.
The new tablet is also expected to be thinner and lighter.
However, an AT&T executive has leaked information about a possible iPhone 5 release in October.
