Family of five displaced by house fire in San Jose

SAN JOSE

Firefighters responded to 3139 Cunningham Lake Court after receiving a phone call from a neighbor around 12:45 a.m. reporting the blaze, San Jose fire Capt. Anthony Melendrez said.

A 17-year-old girl and her two cousins who were inside the home were able to escape without injury, Melendrez said. Firefighters knocked down the blaze at about 1:15 a.m. and the fire was under control about 30 minutes later, he said.

The blaze was contained to the area where it originated, in the hallway near a bathroom and an air conditioning unit, Melendrez said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but he said preliminary investigation revealed it was not triggered by an air conditioning system malfunction.

The fire displaced five people, including the 17-year-old girl's parents, who were not home at the time, Melendrez said.

Investigators have not determined an estimated amount in damage to the two-story house. Twenty-three firefighters responded to the blaze.
