Woman seeks help at Occupy SF encampment after stabbing

SAN FRANCISCO

Police were alerted to the stabbing by someone at the camp at Justin Herman Plaza at 3:48 a.m., Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

The victim told police she was near Eddy and Hyde streets in the Tenderloin when a man approached her and tried to rob her, Andraychak said.

According to her account, when the man realized she didn't have any money, he punched her several times then left, Andraychak said. After he was gone, she realized she had been stabbed and called her husband.

"The husband came to the scene and they decided to ... take a cab down to the Occupy SF event because there's a medical tent there," Andraychak said.

Someone at Occupy SF reported the stabbing, and the woman was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Her injuries are not life-threatening, Andraychak said.

Police believe the stabbing happened around 3:20 a.m. Andraychak said investigators will head to the Tenderloin today to see if they can find any evidence related to the crime.
