A cat that was lost for two months in New York before being reunited with his owner in San Jose has passed away.

Back in August, Jack the Cat escaped from his kennel when it fell at John F. Kennedy airport in New York City. Jack was found in late October after he fell through the ceiling at the airport.

A message posted Sunday afternoon on Jack's Facebook page said the cat had extensive wounds that were unable to heal.

"Jack had been through so much, and the last thing anyone wanted was for him to suffer more," the note on Facebook read. "Jack was bathed in love and crossed over just a few minutes ago."

Thousands of people left comments of support for Jack on his Facebook page after reading the news. Jack's owners said they will launch a website in his memory.
