Sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart said an autopsy is scheduled Tuesday morning.

Crumpley, who was dressed in dark clothing, was struck around 8 p.m. in the northbound lane of Silverado Trail, north of Trancas Street in unincorporated Napa County near Napa, the California Highway Patrol said.

She was hit by a northbound 2004 GMC Yukon XL driven by 16-year-old James Paul Kinda, of Napa, according to the CHP.

The collision threw the woman 60 feet, and she landed in the southbound lane, CHP officials said.

Kinda got out of his vehicle to prevent southbound traffic from striking the woman, but left the GMC Yukon in gear, and the vehicle traveled onto the west shoulder of Silverado Trail and struck a tree, according to the CHP.

The collision is still under investigation.
