Police have surrounded an apartment complex in Oakland where they say a wanted man is holed up inside.

Police still have their perimeter set up at an apartment complex on the 3100 block of High Street while the SWAT team works to flush out a parolee.

The parolee is wanted in Fremont on burglary and weapons charges. He was spotted early Thursday morning by police, who gave chase. For a brief moment, he got onto the freeway and went the wrong way.

The suspect abandoned his car on High Street and fled. Police found a gun inside the vehicle ditched by the suspect.

The situation has residents within a two block area of High Street in limbo. School children are having to wait on a street corner until the scene is secure.
